What is SAR?

Mission

The mission of SAR is to facilitate an introduction to the lifetime sport of target shooting to school-aged youth in grade 4 through grade 12.

Purpose

The purpose of the SAR is to increase involvement in shooting sports, enhance educational performance, and promote positive youth development through firearms safety and target shooting education.

Vision

The vision of SAR is everyone will have opportunity to participate in shooting sports and target shooting will be universally regarded as safe, universal and fun.

Guiding Principles

Promote Safety

Safety will be practiced and promoted ensuring target shooting remains a safe activity.

Integrate in Schools

SAR will be taught in-school using curriculum aligned with national physical education standards and delivered by certified school teachers in grade 4 through 12.

Teach Basic Air Riflery

Primary curriculum focus will be basic air rifle target shooting methods and the safety procedures that guide them.

Coordinate with Partners

SAR will be integrated and coordinated through fish and wildlife agencies and other partners around the country.

Standardize Approach

Standardized training and equipment will be used to deliver a safe, structured, educational and fun curriculum.

Foster Teamwork

Regional, state and national tournaments will be promoted and encouraged to foster student development, educational performance and teamwork.
